The Miami Marlins will host the New York Yankees in the first game of their three-game series. It’s time to continue our MLB odds series and make a Yankees-Marlins prediction and pick.

The Yankees are coming off their worst loss of the season, where they were embarrassed by the Tampa Bay Rays 14-0. They currently sit in third place of the competitive American League East with a 53-48 record.

Meanwhile, the Marlins are struggling to string a run of wins together as they are currently in last place of the National League East with a 44-58 record.

Here’s how sportsbooks have set the Yankees-Marlins odds.

MLB Odds: Yankees-Marlins Odds

New York Yankees -1.5 (+100)

Miami Marlins +1.5 (-120)

Over 7.5 Runs (-115)

Under 7.5 Runs (-105)

Why The Yankees Could Cover The Spread

The Yankees have been poor against the run line this season. They cover only 43.6% of the time.

New York plans to start right-hander Jameson Taillon on the mound. He is 6-4 this season and has an ERA of 4.36.

However, the 29-year-old has won five straight decisions and has a 1.42 ERA in the month of July.  In his last start, he pitched seven innings, giving up four hits and only one earned run.

The Yankees have made massive moves ahead of the MLB Trade Deadline. They signed Joey Gallo to a batting lineup that already consists of Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton. Moreover, they just acquired Anthony Rizzo on Thursday night. However, it is not certain he will be with the team in time for the first game against the Marlins.

Despite all the star power, the most consistent offensive player for the Yankees as of late has been Gleyber Tores. The starting shortstop is on an 11-game hitting streak and leads the team in stolen bases.

The Yankees will need Taillon to continue his current form and for their star-heavy lineup to find their rhythm if they are to defeat the Miami Marlins in an interleague battle and made a push for a playoff spot.

Why The Marlins Could Cover The Spread

The Marlins are 55-46 against the run line this season. That number improves even more when they play in their home stadium, LoanDepot Park, a place where they cover 55.3% of the time.

Miami plans to give rookie Zach Thompson his eighth start of the season. The right-hander has played well for the Marlins this season. He is just 2-3 on the year but has a solid 2.45 ERA. However, in his last appearance on the mound, he threw five innings, where he surrendered three earned runs and gave up six hits.

The Marlins are struggling to find runs this season. They are 27th in the MLB in runs per game with just 3.97.  They also rank below the league average in every major batting statistic this season.

If Miami is to pull off the upset against the Yankees, they will need to keep it a low-scoring game and take advantage of the few times their players get in scoring position.

Final Yankees-Marlins Prediction & Pick

Although the Yankees suffered an embarrassing loss in their last outing against the Rays, they still came away with the series win and have won six of their last ten.

Additionally, according to Yankees' Manager, Aaron Boone (via ESPN), Gallo is expected to be in the lineup. He will make an immediate impact, providing a powerful lefty bat to what is mostly a right-handed Yankees lineup.

For those reasons, the New York Yankees will defeat the Miami Marlins and continue to creep up in the American League East.
