As part of a tweet that was sent out on Thursday morning, USA TODAY's Bob Nightengale reported that the Cleveland Indians are planning to trade two-time Gold Glove award winner Francisco Lindor before the start of the 2021 season.

For many Tribe fans, this would be an incredibly tough blow, as the Puerto Rican-born shortstop has been a fan favorite for several years. Even from the highest seat at Progressive Field, Lindor's flashy smile could be seen. However, he has heard the rumors of a potential trade:

“It’s crossed my mind because a lot of you have mentioned it,” Lindor said after the Indians were swept by the Yankees in the Wild Card Series, via lastwordonsports.com. “I haven’t sat back and though about it. On social media, that’s all they talk about it… I haven’t thought about it deeply enough to say, ‘This could be my last game.'”

The Indians' shortstop is set to enter his final year of arbitration next year. He will then presumably hit free agency and there should be plenty of teams interested in his services. Ultimately, though, he knows he can't control Cleveland's decision:

“I would love to say spend money. But that’s (owner Paul) Dolan’s money,” Lindor said.

“I can’t control the future. I can’t control the [moves] the organization makes. What I can control is how happy I am and how hard I work.”

If the Indians indeed plan on trading Francisco Lindor, they will be looking for a fair return. There are already several ideas and rumors floating about, but we'll have to wait and see where he lands. His salary will undoubtedly be one of the hotter talking points.

Lindor slashed .258/.335/.415 in 60 games with the Indians during the 2020 season.
