The MLB trade deadline is approaching quickly and this is the time for teams to start making conversations about either buying or selling. With contending teams looking for extra help, and rebuilding teams looking to sell away for prospects, one team in question is the Colorado Rockies.
The Rockies are towards the bottom of the National League West and have no chance of making a run at a division crown this season, at the very least. However, Rockies manager Bud Black gave some insight on potentially dealing pitcher German Marquez at the deadline, and it's a bit surprising.
Bud Black just told us regarding trade rumors for German Marquez “we have Marquez under control for a couple of years… he’s not going anywhere….. he’s not going to be traded” @Rockies @MLBNetworkRadio

That seems confusing for the Rockies, and it could be taken with a grain of salt because, frankly, Black might not exactly know what's going on in the front office.
Article Continues BelowEither way, pitching is always one of the key areas for contending teams, and Marquez has been excellent in 2021. He has posted a 7-6 record with a 3.59 ERA and is on fire. In his past three starts, he's totaled 23 innings with six hits and three runs with a pair of walks, which includes a complete-game, one-hit shutout against the Pittsburgh Pirates at the end of June.
Teams looking for pitching should be aplenty, especially with the closeness of some of these division races. Marquez should be a hot name, and while Black says he isn't going anywhere, a monster offer could be enough for the Rockies to change their minds.
Brace yourselves, this could be a wild MLB trade deadline.
