The Houston Astros fell just short of their quest to avenge their fall from grace with a World Series win, losing to the Atlanta Braves, 4-2. Now comes the hard part.

Carlos Correa is entering free agency and is expected to command a massive figure – one that the Astros may not be keen to match. The shortstop was asked about how he felt taking potentially his last at bat in an Astros uniform.

Houston had Brantley on and no outs in the bottom of the ninth at that point, but with a 7-run deficit, Correa decided to soak in the moment instead.

Via Brian T. Smith:

“It was the only thing that was going through my mind, to be honest,” admitted the Astros star. “A lot of feelings, mixed emotions. I spent seven years with this club. And yeah it was all going through my mind for sure.”

Carlos Correa sent out a heartfelt thank you to Astros fans should there really be no next game for him as a home player at Minute Maid park.

“To the fans, I want to say thank you for your support. My time here was amazing. … I got here as a boy and turned into a man.”

Dusty Baker spoke fondly of his star after the game, claiming that “it's not over yet” in terms of keeping him in Houston. But he proceeded to speak out on the kind of player Correa is in what felt like a parting message of his own.

“He's a professional. He's a real leader. He's a gladiator but a gentleman at the same time. I can tell how our guys gravitate towards him. I can tell even how the opposition shows respect for him. … Win or lose, he doesn't clown, he doesn't showboat. He plays the game the way it should be played.”

As Dusty Baker said, Carlos Correa's departure isn't a done deal as of now, but it sure feels like it for Astros fans who will have to wait anxiously as the we enter the offseason.
