Houston Astros second baseman Jose Altuve has once again shattered a notable record in franchise history.

MLB announced on Thursday the starters for both the American League and the National League in the upcoming 2022 All-Star Game. To not much of a surprise, Altuve was named as the AL’s starter at the second base position.

Altuve made history with the selection, as he has now earned eight total All-Star Game nods in his Houston career, which is a new team record. Longtime Astros second baseman Craig Biggio was the previous holder of this record with seven.

More so, Altuve will also start in the All-Star Game for the fifth time in his career.

Overall, Altuve has been on top of his game for the current AL West leaders this season. He entered Houston’s road matchup against the Oakland Athletics on Friday leading all AL second basemen in numerous hitting stats, including in home runs (17) and OPS (.907).

As it currently stands, Altuve is the Astros’ lone selection for this month’s All-Star Game, although the likes of Yordan Alvarez and Justin Verlander are slated to accompany him out at Dodger Stadium. This is an Astros team that sits atop the AL West standings with a 54-28 record, with the second-place Seattle Mariners at 13.0 games back of the reigning American League champions.
