Alex Bregman is a World Series champion, 2-time All-Star, and 2019 MVP runner-up. The Houston Astros third baseman was once considered one of the best players in MLB. Despite dealing with injuries in 2021, Bregman still posted a quality season through 91 games. But he is enduring a terrible 2022 campaign so far and manager Dusty Baker is tired of discussing his struggles.

The Astros' manager decided to focus on the positives when asked about Bregman prior to Houston's game against the Miami Marlins on Saturday.

“I’m kind of tired of answering these questions,” Baker said. “Let’s wait. Nobody is at the top of their game from start to finish. He’s getting on base. This isn’t an individual game, it’s a team game. We’re in first place. I don’t want to single guys out.”

It's hard to imagine that Bregman is declining at just 28-years old. 28-years old is often considered an age for peak performance in baseball. But Bregman is slashing just .219/.336/.372 with a .709 OPS and 6 home runs as of this story's publication. To make matters worse, he hits in the middle of a rather impressive Astros' lineup.

Nonetheless, Dusty Baker continues to preach patience with Alex Bregman. His track record certainly speaks for itself and we are only two months into the 2022 season. There is plenty of time left for him to turn things around.

Expect Baker to continue utilizing Bregman moving forward. However, if the struggles persist past the All-Star break change could be in order. This is an Astros team with World Series aspirations and they can't afford to have any liabilities in a starring role.
