The Los Angeles Angels are enduring a disappointing 2022 campaign. After a solid start to the season, LA fell apart and now find themselves near the bottom of the AL West. And on Monday, the Angels placed Mike Trout on the injured list, per Angels beat writer Jeff Fletcher.

The #Angels have placed Mike Trout on the 10-day IL. They’re calling it rib cage inflammation. He would be eligible to return on the 2nd game after the All-Star break.

It sounds as if Trout's injury is not too serious. Nonetheless, he will be forced to miss the 2022 MLB All-Star Game. In a season where the Angels are expected to not make the postseason barring a miraculous turnaround, seeing Mike Trout in the All-Star game would have been special.

This news comes on the same day that it was announced Shohei Ohtani will likely not pitch in the 2022 MLB All-Star Game. There are no reports of injury for Ohtani, who is still DH'ing and batting leadoff for the American League squad.

Mike Trout is enjoying a solid 2022 campaign. The superstar is slashing .270/.368/.599 with a .967 OPS. He has also clubbed 24 home runs and driven in 51 runs. He could factor into the AL MVP race if he continues playing well and avoids a long-term stay on the injured list.

For now, Trout will focus on getting healthy. The Los Angeles Angels playoff chances are very slim at this point. But it's not completely out of the question. So Trout will aim to return and help the team start winning games.
