Los Angeles sports fans were in full support of the Los Angeles Dodgers after their 3-1 victory against the Tampa Bay Rays in Game 6 to claim the 2020 World Series title. There was much anticipation for the championship win especially with the franchise having a 32-year long drought which finally ended on Tuesday.

Fanatics executive chairman Michael Rubin recently announced on Twitter that the Dodgers set a new record for the first eight hours of championship merchandise sold over at Fanatics. Their tally broke the previous records held by the Chicago Cubs, Los Angeles Lakers, and the Philadelphia Eagles after their respective title runs.

Back in early October, Fanatics announced that the Lakers have become the top-selling NBA Finals champion in sales history. In the first 12 hours alone, the Lakers sold more merchandise than the previous record holder, another Lebron James-led team in the 2016 Cleveland Cavaliers who beat the 73-9 Golden State Warriors after overcoming a 3-1 deficit.

The four-time MVP also previously broke the top-selling jersey of any NBA player after winning the 2020 NBA title followed by the late Kobe Bryant in No.2. Lakers Championship merchandise has sold to fans in over 110 countries and 85 percent of all Lakers Championship merchandise sales came from mobile devices.

Serving as a home to two of the sports world's most decorated franchises isn't a bad thing to have for Los Angeles. After a devastating 2020 with the passing of Lakers icon Kobe Bryant, it is only right that L.A. will get to have two championship squads in the same year. The city of Angels is indeed a city of champions after all.
