The New York Yankees will be getting some of their stars back from the IL within the next week, but they cannot seem to avoid the injury bug.

Designated hitter Edwin Encarnacion left Game 1 of New York's doubleheader against the Detroit Tigers after suffering a left oblique strain, according to Bryan Hoch of MLB.com:

Encarnacion had actually homered earlier in the game, but he was removed for a pinch hitter in the seventh inning after apparently experiencing some discomfort.

The veteran slugger was acquired by the Yankees in mid-June, and prior to today's game he was slashing .246/.320/.514 with 12 homers.

Encarnacion had just returned from a fractured right wrist that forced him to miss a month of action, and now his status for the remainder of the regular season is unclear. Although the injury can take up to six weeks to heal, Yankees manager Aaron Boone iterated that he did not think that it is a serious setback:

This injury is yet another source of frustration for the Yankees. It was recently revealed that outfielder Aaron Hicks is unlikely to return for the postseason, and utility man Mike Tauchman could miss up to two months, which would also likely force him out of postseason play.

Fortunately, the Yankees are likely to get Giancarlo Stanton back from the IL next week, and he will immediately fill Encarnacion's DH duties. However, Stanton has also played all of nine games this season.

He will likely need an adjustment period before the regular season concludes.
