After back-to-back sluggish showings against the Toronto Blue Jays and Detroit Tigers, Gerrit Cole orchestrated a keen bounce-back performance in the New York Yankees’ 10-2 win over the Cleveland Guardians on Sunday.

Cole was simply electric on the day; he logged 6.2 innings pitched to go along with zero earned runs and nine strikeouts. From the 17 swings and misses recorded to the four-seam fastball that continually reached into the 98-99 mph range, Guardians hitters had dire struggles in creating traffic on the base paths.

After the game, Cole kept it simple with his evaluation of what was a vintage outing on the day.

“It was a really good feeling,” Cole said. “It was a good day.”

Cole now boasts a 4.00 ERA on the season after four starts. He has also tallied for 21 strikeouts so far in the campaign.

The Yankees have now gotten back on track after winning a combined five of their last six games against the Guardians and Tigers. Their pitching staff led the way in the series wins over both AL Central clubs; they allowed a mere 2.5 runs per game over the six contests.

The Yankees will now open up a three-game home series with the Orioles beginning on Monday. For Cole, his next start is slated to come on April 30 against the Kansas City Royals.
