New York Yankees starting pitcher Gerrit Cole had a rough outing on Tuesday night against the Detroit Tigers. The Yankees won the game, though it was no thanks to Cole, who endured the shortest outing of his career, as he was pulled in the second inning by manager Aaron Boone. Visibly disappointed on the mound and after the game, Cole delivered a blunt reaction to Boone's quick hook, as reported by the New York Post.
Asked what was going through his mind at the time, Cole said, “A lot of four-letter words.”
When asked what he was thinking when he saw Boone coming out to get him, Cole said “a lot of four-letter words.” It's hard to blame the Yankees starter for wanting to yell expletives into night sky, as he simply lost all command of his pitches, issuing five walks while allowing a pair of runs in 1 2/3 frames of work.
Yankees fans wanted to scream expletives too, as they made it known how they felt about Cole's outing, even in the Tigers' home ballpark.
Cole is paid to be the Yankees' ace- though the results have been anything but ace-like so far, as he sports a bloated 6.35 ERA and 1.41 WHIP through three starts.
If Cole doesn't turn things around soon, he'll feel like screaming expletives and four-letter words far more often.
