Philadelphia Phillies manager Joe Girardi is very much feeling the hot seat following his team's complete meltdown in the 9th inning during Thursday's 8-7 loss to the New York Mets.

Coming into 2022 with high expectations after bolstering their offense with the additions of Nicholas Castellanos and Kyle Schwarber, the Phillies are limping out of the starting gate this season to an 11-15 record through the first 26 games of the regular season. The 11-15 start puts the Phillies in fourth place in a very mediocre National League East division and already seven games behind the current first-place leaders, the New York Mets.

Girardi, the manager of the 2009 World Series champion New York Yankees, took the Phillies managerial job before the 2020 MLB season in succession to current San Francisco Giants manager Gabe Kaplar.

Girardi took the Phillies job after a two-year absence from managing following a mutual departure with the Yankees after the 2017 season resulting in Girardi returning to broadcast media for a two-year stint.

With the Phillies' rocky start, many fans are beginning to call for the manager's head to be on a silver platter.

In just over two years with the Phillies, Girardi's record as the manager of the team sits at 121-126 overall, without a playoff appearance yet, despite Bryce Harper winning the NL MVP award in 2021.

While it is unclear whether or not Phillies GM Sam Fuld would be willing to make a move and fire Girardi midseason, it seems like a pretty safe bet that if the Phillies are not playing October baseball this season that Girardi will almost certainly be one of the first names on the chopping block.
