What Philadelphia Phillies second baseman Bryson Stott did during Sunday's 8-5 road win against the Cleveland Guardians might have gone generally unnoticed, but it's definitely worth the attention of baseball fans all over.
Via Baseball Reference:
“Bryson Stott is the 12th player in AL/NL history—and the first since Darren Lewis in 1991—to have 4 walks and 3 stolen bases in a game.”
That was a terrific bounce-back performance for Bryson Stott, who went hitless in three at-bats in last Saturday's 1-0 loss to the Guardians. Stott also scored a run in the series finale versus Cleveland after Alec Bohm drove him to home plate on an RBI single.
Apart from Stott and Lewis, other players who accomplished the same feat were the likes of Rickey Henderson (of course) and Gerald Young.
Stott has been a solid weapon at the plate for the Phillies so far in the 2023 MLB regular season. He is hitting .304 with nine home runs, 36 RBIs, and 19 stolen bases. He has been on a roll especially of late, having hit .353 with a .431 on-base percentage, .529 slugging percentage, two home runs, five RBIs, six walks, and five stolen bases over the last 15 Phillies games.
Stott and the Phillies snapped a four-game losing skid with Sunday's win over the Guardians. The Phillies will return home for their next series, as they host the Baltimore Orioles in a three-game set that begins Monday night at Citizens Bank Park.
Philadelphia still has plenty of work left to do if they are to catch the Atlanta Braves atop the National League East division, but they at least kept possession of the second place in the division.
