The St. Louis Cardinals all but eliminated the Chicago Cubs from playoff contention on Sunday afternoon with yet another come-from-behind victory, and clinched their own playoff spot in the process.

St. Louis scored two runs off Yu Darvish in the top of the ninth inning to win the game 3-2 and complete a four-game sweep of the Cubs at Wrigley Field in historic fashion.

This was the first time in close to 100 years that the Cardinals swept a four-game series against the Cubs in Chicago:

For the Cubs, the loss marked their fifth consecutive defeat where the game was decided by just a single run. The last time they did something like that came in 1915. It was also the first time that any team had lost five straight one-run games since the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2011:

The Cardinals strung together a series of comebacks on Saturday, as well. After a back-and-forth affair with multiple lead changes in the later innings, Yadier Molina and Paul DeJong hit back-to-back homers off Cubs closer Craig Kimbrel to take the lead.

Matt Carpenter homered off Kimbrel to give the Cardinals a 5-4 lead on Thursday night after the Cubs had scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to tie the game.

While St. Louis has guaranteed a spot in October, the Cubs are on their way out. With the Milwaukee Brewers winning on Sunday, the Cubs have fallen four games back of the second Wild Card spot with just six games left to play. A stake has been driven through their hearts, courtesy of the rival Redbirds.
