Gareth Bale is set to finally leave Real Madrid this summer when his contract expires after nine seasons at the club. While he's been linked to the likes of former teams Tottenham and Cardiff City, the MLS is reportedly trying their luck at luring the talented winger in.

Per the Washington Post's Steven Goff, DC United has contacted Bale's agent over a possible move to the Nation's capital:

This would be massive for the MLS and DC United, who previously signed Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney in 2018. Bale, who is heading into the twilight years of his footballing career, is looking to latch on with a club and play meaningful minutes next season as he prepares to hopefully suit up for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Wales faces the winner of Ukraine vs Scotland in June in the playoffs to decide their fate.

Bale has evidently fallen out of favor at the Bernabeu, registering just 280 minutes of playing time in La Liga action in 2021/22 but still remains a crucial piece of the Welsh squad, scoring a brace against Austria last month. He still possesses a ton of quality and a move to the MLS may be beneficial. In a short loan spell with Spurs last term, Bale netted 10 times in just 20 appearances.

It likely won't be cheap for DC to sign Gareth Bale, but they seem willing to pay his asking price. On the other hand, this club is in shambles and struggle to compete in the Eastern Conference. If Bale was going to come to the US, he'd want to join a team that is competing for titles.
