Tennessee Titans running back Derrick Henry and actress Reese Witherspoon can now add “Sports Team Owner” in their résumé after joining the ownership group of MLS club Nashville SC.
The team confirmed the arrival of the new minority owners on Tuesday, with Witherspoon being joined in the ownership group by her husband Jim Toth, who is also an agent and investor. The announcement comes ahead of the May 1 opening of GEODIS Park, Nashville SC's new home for the 2022 season.
Nashville SC has played its first eight MLS games on the road this season as they way for the opening of their new stadium.
In a statement, Henry shared how it has always been a dream of him to be a sports owner. He also highlighted that his ownership in the MLS team is more than just a financial investment as he looks to plant his roots deeper in the city.
The Titans RB is the fourth player from the NFL to invest and become a part-owner of an MLS team. The likes of Patrick Mahomes, Russell Wilson and Mark Ingram have all invested in the growing league as well.
“As a kid growing up in Florida, I imagined being a professional sports owner and the opportunity to do that with a Major League Soccer club is truly a dream come true,” Derrick Henry shared. “My investment in Nashville SC is way more than financial, it’s truly an investment in the city of Nashville. The chance to be part of a club like Nashville SC, especially after seeing what they are accomplishing in the community, was an opportunity I did not want to miss.”
As for Reese Witherspoon, she expressed her excitement to become part of the MLS club after being a huge fan of the team. As a Nashville native, she highlighted that it is “thrilling to see how much growth and development has come to our home state.”
With the addition of Henry and Witherspoon, it looks like the opening of GEODIS Park will rather be star-studded.
