With Panini releasing their major NBA card products this year, such as Prizm, Select, and Optic, one might think there's little to expect until 2022 arrives. That shouldn't be the case since the company is still set to release Chronicles and Mosaic before the year ends. But if that's too far along, collectors can look forward to Panini's Recon set in just a few days.

Before Panini's latest product drops, we take a look below at what's new and why collectors should be excited about it.

Panini Recon Is An NBA Card Set To Look Forward To

A year ago, hobbyists were feasting on Panini's Chronicles NBA card set, which featured the likes of Ja Morant and Zion Williamson rookie cards. Among the many subsets one can hit from that product was Recon. Now, Panini has decided to expand it and release these cards as a proper set.

This marks the first time Recon will come out as a standalone product. Along with the incoming Flux set, Panini is positioning Recon towards those looking for a bargain purchase in the market. It joins the company's affordable offerings, such as NBA Hoops, Donruss, and Illusions, among others. As a result, Panini's product line just got bigger to accommodate the ever-growing sports card market and give collectors another reason to get excited.

The Recon NBA Card Design Is An Eye-Catcher

While Prizm boasts a machined look to go along with its cards and Optic goes for the vintage-inspired design, Panini has chosen a completely different route when it comes to Recon. Although collectors won't find the usual chrome finish to these cards, there's still a lot of things to like about their appearance.

For starters, Panini is going for a geometric look with a lot of color splashed onto it. Hobbyists won't find any court background here or any trace of the audience. Much like Illusions, another bargain set from Panini, the card design focuses more on infusing a lot of action through various shapes and eye-popping colors. The end result is a card that looks very distinct from every other product Panini has released before.

Its unique look is made even more distinguishing, thanks to Panini's usual inclusion of parallels. These include Holo, Spiral, Pink, and Bronze. Meanwhile, the numbered parallels are Red (/199), Blue (/99), Purple (/49), Gold, (/10), Green (/5), and Platinum (/1).

Value For Money

It's a given that prices of card products have been on an upward trend since 2020. This increase has somehow limited collectors when it comes to their spending. Thankfully, Panini's bargain NBA card products are there to cater to this segment of the market and their latest Recon set aims to expand their foothold on it.

While there isn't any news about blaster boxes or individual cello packs yet, collectors can look forward to getting their hands on a hobby box of this set for $150. It contains 10 packs with six cards each. In each of these packs, hobbyists can expect to find a parallel or an insert to go along with the usual rookie card. Furthermore, each hobby box holds an average of two autographs inside.

Those who want something new and are not looking to spend that much will do well with Panini's latest Recon set. Although its value can't be compared to more established products, its affordable price will go well with the number of cards, and possibly, good hits one can get from a single hobby box.

Recon's release is scheduled for October 27. This gives collectors less than a week to reserve their hobby boxes before they make their way to the public. In any case, this is one set every NBA card enthusiast should look forward to.
