Cade Cunningham is making sure the spotlight stays on him on his huge night amid all the trade drama with Russell Westbrook and the Los Angeles Lakers. Cunningham was in an awkward position as the huge deal that's sending the former MVP to the 2020 NBA champs in exchange for a handful of stars was formalized minutes after his big moment. But, per the newest member of the Pistons, this is still his night.
“I think it's going to be remembered as the night the Pistons drafted Cade Cunningham and the team turned things around,” Cunningham said when how he thinks this night will be remembered (via James Edwards III of The Athletic).
You gotta love the confidence on this young man.
Despite the blockbuster deal that's bringing Russ back home to LA to join forces with LeBron James and Anthony Davis, Cunningham believes that his name should still be the biggest one being talked about, not just tonight, but for the foreseeable future. The 19-year-old is hoping to bring his athleticism and versatility to Detroit to help build a formidable young core with sophomores like Isaiah Steward, Saddiq Bey, and Killian Hayes.
As much as we want to talk about Hollywood's newest big three, the arrival of Cade Cunningham in the NBA has been quite anticipated. Cunningham is part of a very loaded rookie class and Cunningham coming up on top says a lot about this guy's skill level and potential. His ceiling is whatever he wants it to be and we're ready to hop on the Cade train.
