Often, basketball fans forget what it's all about. They get lost in the heated playoff races and arguments over whose team or which player is better. Ultimately, they forget that the NBA is supposed to be fun.

But artist Giovanni Contardi didn't lose sight of that. On his Instagram page, jvenb, Contardi uses Rubik's Cubes to recreate the faces of many celebrities and pop culture icons. His latest masterpiece featured Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James.

In the description of his Instagram post, Contardi explains his inspiration:

“I saw my first live NBA game 2 years ago, and I was mind blown – here's my tribute to that experience.”

Others that Contardi has immortalized with his Rubik's Cube art include Marilyn Monroe, Kevin Hart, Pennywise the Clown.

LeBron James is the first athlete Contardi has featured, and it isn't hard to see why. The 34-year-old is a 15-time All-Star, four-time NBA Most Valuable Player and three-time NBA Champion. He even won the Finals MVP each time for good measure.

In his first year with the Lakers, James is averaging 26.8 points, 8.6 rebounds and 7.6 assists while shooting 51.3 percent overall. For his career, he has posted 27.1 points, 7.4 rebounds and 7.2 assists per game.

The Lakers are in the thick of the playoff race this season, and James has been a big part of that push. Los Angeles hasn't made the playoffs since the 2012-13 season but, at 28-29, are only three games back of the LA Clippers for the eighth seed.

According to ESPN's BPI Playoff Odds, the team has a 6.5% chance of making the playoffs this season.
