It’s been a while since we’ve seen Mitch McGary play in a meaningful basketball game. After all, he’s been out of the NBA since 2016, when the Oklahoma City Thunder waived him in October of that year. But even before that, he’s rarely seen action, largely because the NBA suspended him for multiple games because of a failed drug test.

With no NBA team knocking at his door as of the moment, McGary chose to get high on something else: bowling. Correct, the 6-10 former Michigan Wolverine star has brought his athletic skills to the bowling alley, per Johnny Gorches of the Chicago Tribune

McGary is bowling in a sanctioned league, and after getting a refresher tutorial on the sport he grew up with in junior high, he rolled his first career 700 series two weeks ago. He scored a 703 in the Thursday Any Mixed League at Inman's Bowling & Rec Center in Valparaiso.

McGary is just 24, so basketball opportunities will still come his way, and dabbling in bowling for the meantime appears to be helping him keep that competitive spirit very much alive.

“I love it,” McGary said. “People are surprised I bowl pretty good.”

He's averaging 195, which isn't too shabby for someone who hadn't bowled for years.

Some may find it odd for McGary to be spending time bowling but it’s not as weird as seeing a seven-footer former NBA player hunched in front of a pinball machine like Todd MacCulloch.

In any case, McGary will do what he wants and anyone who doesn’t like it, well, that’s just, like, your opinion, man.

McGary was drafted 21st overall in the 2014 NBA Draft by the Thunder, but played in just 52 total games, averaging paltry numbers of 4.4 points and 3.5 rebounds per contest. He’s had success in college as part of the Michigan Wolverines that reached the 2013 NCAA Tournament finals.
