Atlanta Hawks rookie point guard Trae Young and Houston Rockets superstar shooting guard James Harden have been named the NBA Players of the Week for Week 23’s action.

This is Harden’s fourth Player of the Week award of the season. Young, meanwhile, has earned his first Player of the Week award of his career.

Both Young and Harden put up stellar numbers last week while leading their respective teams to winning records.

For the Hawks, Young averaged 25.3 points, 4.0 rebounds and 11.3 assists while shooting 45.5 percent from the field, 35.0 percent from beyond the arc and 82.6 percent from the free-throw line. Atlanta went 2-1. They defeated the Utah Jazz and Philadelphia 76ers and lost to the Rockets.

Harden, who has been on a scoring tear pretty much all season, averaged 44.3 points, 6.3 rebounds and 5.8 assists last week. The reigning MVP scored 31, 57, 61 and 28 points last week. The Rockets went 3-1. They beat the Hawks, San Antonio Spurs and New Orleans Pelicans and lost to the Memphis Grizzlies.

Harden and Young are both involved in a heated race this season. The Beard is going up against Giannis Antetokounmpo for the NBA’s MVP award, while Young and Dallas Mavericks rookie Luka Doncic are battling it out for the Rookie of the Year award.
