The NBA has announced that Charlotte Hornets point guard Kemba Walker and Denver Nuggets big man Nikola Jokic are the Players of the Week for Week 1 of the 2018-19 season.

Jokic guided the Nuggets to a 3-0 week while putting up monster numbers. The big man averaged 26.3 points, 10.0 rebounds and 7.3 assists per game. Denver's biggest win came against the Golden State Warriors on Sunday night.

Walker, meanwhile, led the Hornets to a 2-1 week. The All-Star floor general averaged 35.3 points and 5.3 assists per game. Walker scored 41 points in the season opener against the Milwaukee Bucks and set the record for most 3-pointers through three games with 19.

Kemba Walker is entering the final year of his contract with the Hornets. There has been speculation Charlotte might trade the franchise's best player near the February trade deadline if the club doesn't have a winning record. One thing you can count on is that Walker will always give 100 percent effort on the floor even if the team is struggling.

Nikola Jokic and the Nuggets agreed to a five-year, $146.5 million maximum contract extension in July. The 23-year-old has established himself as one of the best centers and passing big men in the NBA. Denver missed the playoffs last year on the last day of the regular-season. Jokic and the rest of his teammates used that defeat as motivation throughout the offseason and are eager to make the postseason this year.

The Nuggets have surprisingly been one of the best defensive teams to start the year.
