The first time the Golden State Warriors and the Cleveland Cavaliers faced off in the NBA Finals was in 2015. The Dubs went on to win that series, 4-2, en route to their first dynasty championship.

Former Cavs big man Kendrick Perkins remembers that series quite well, and according to him, Cleveland actually hoped to face the Houston Rockets — the team the Dubs went through in the Western Conference Finals — instead of the powerhouse Warriors.

“When we was watching the Western Conference Finals, I was like, ‘Man, I want to play the Rockets,'” Perkins told the Runnin’ Plays podcast, via Orel Dizon of Cavaliers Nation. “‘I think we’ll sweep the Rockets. I really don’t want to play Golden State.’

“But everyone in the Cavs organization kept saying, ‘No, we want Golden State.’ And I kept saying, ‘Nah, there’s something about this team, man. I’m telling y’all, I don’t really want to play them.'”

To make it clear, it was actually Perkins who had the vision. While his Cavs teammates were all gunning for Stephen Curry and the Warriors, Perkins just somehow knew that this would spell trouble.

True enough, Perkins' phenomenal prophecy came true, and Golden State ended up defeating Cleveland in the NBA Finals.

The Cavs, however, would return the favor the following season, as they memorably defeated the Warriors on the same stage exactly one year later. Only this time, it came in the most amazing fashion, with the Cavs defying history by coming back from 3-1 down to defeat the defending champs.

We're pretty sure Perkins fortold that one as well.
