The NBA’s last two minute officiating report from Monday says Utah Jazz center Rudy Gobert fouled New Orleans Pelicans small forward Brandon Ingram on his game-tying layup attempt.

The Pelicans lost to the Jazz by a final score of 128-126:

Brandon Ingram was pretty upset after the foul wasn’t called, and so was Pelicans head coach Alvin Gentry. If Ingram had been awarded two free throws, the Pelicans would have had a chance to tie the game and may have ultimately won in overtime.

With the win, the Jazz improved to 24-12 on the season. They are in the fifth spot in the Western Conference standings and 9-1 in their last 10 games. Slowly but surely, the Jazz are starting to look like the team many thought they would resemble this season.

The Pelicans, meanwhile, dropped to 12-25. They are in 14th place in the Western Conference and likely will miss the playoffs for the second straight season even if No. 1 overall pick Zion Williamson comes back.

These last two minute reports are always controversial for players, coaches and fans. Pelicans fans knew watching the game live that Ingram got fouled by Rudy Gobert, while Jazz fans were thankful the refs called the play in their favor and ultimately sealed an important win.

These calls get missed all the time, so New Orleans will have to chalk it up to bad luck and move on.
