The Los Angeles Lakers finally did it. On the night of the 2021 NBA Draft, the Lakers acquired star guard Russell Westbrook in a blockbuster trade with the Washington Wizards, pairing Westbrook with LeBron James and Anthony Davis and bringing Westbrook back home where he played his college ball.
On paper, the move is fantastic and a lot of Lakers fans went absolutely wild. On the other hand, some Lakers fans were not happy with the move at all, and Lakers Twitter (and NBA Twitter, for that matter) was an absolute mess.
It’s funny seeing Lakers fans who were just clowning Russ in the bubble now jumping for joy and also the ones calling Russ trash now complaining of him joining the Lakers and calling em a super team. The dynamics of Twitter 😅

See how Lakers twitter is showing Russ love 😂😂 at this Stage they’ll show Eric Bledsoe love 😂😂

Of course, the move brought mixed reactions from NBA fans in general. On one hand, the Lakers have formed a formidable Big 3. Then there is always the other side of the spectrum as well.
“Lakers have lebrick and westbrick”
“Lakers are a super team after adding Russ”Pick one NBA Twitter, you can’t have both

The Lakers fans teaming up with the Westbrook stans? Jesus, this NBA twitter season is going to be a rough one pic.twitter.com/PeqodlaAAT

The reactions were glorious, as to be expected especially with a move of this magnitude. The Lakers went out and got their guy, somebody that LeBron James had wanted for quite some time.
But again, fans showed their remorse with the move.
Lakers do not have a good front office. They keep showing it

Lakers Twitter really might go up in flames

Its so hilarious how Twitter didn't flinch over the Russ trade to the Lakers. That's how bad that trade is 😂😂😂

How is it that NBA Twitter knows this will only end in disaster, yet the Lakers front office thinks that they just figured out the cheat codes? This makes the Lakers worse. https://t.co/JLXBVlS1LY

What a tiring night. They added a true star point guard. Can he shoot? No. But he has a high motor and is tenacious, and LeBron James and Anthony Davis are a perfect duo to pair next to him as they hope to bring another NBA title to Los Angeles.
No matter what, moves like these will always be criticized, especially when your the Lakers, but let's wait until the season begins.
