LaMelo Ball, the younger brother of Lonzo Ball, has joined the Illawarra Hawks of the Australian National Basketball League.

LaMelo says he wants to be the No. 1 overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft and that playing overseas will help him achieve that goal.

“My agents did a ton of research on the options I had to play this coming season, and Australia really made sense for me,” LaMelo Ball told ESPN. “They have a really strong league, with excellent coaches and great players, including former and future NBA players, and great strength and conditioning programs. My goal is to be the top pick in next year's draft, and I feel they can help me reach that goal. Also, the timing of the season works well with the timing of next year's draft.”

LaMelo is 6-foot-7 now. His brother Lonzo was reportedly traded by the Los Angeles Lakers to the New Orleans Pelicans this past weekend in the blockbuster Anthony Davis trade. LaVar Ball had previously said all three of his sons were going to play for the Lakers together. That obviously won't happen now.

LaMelo Ball scored 92 points in a game for Chino Hills back in 2017. NBA scouts will surely follow his career closely next season.
