The 2019-20 NBA campaign could be on its way back. According to Shams Charania and Sam Amick of The Athletic, the league is shooting for a mid-July return at Disney World in Orlando.

While nothing is concrete just yet, Charania and Amick note that the idea of players training in mid-June and then ultimately returning to the floor in the middle of July has been the “most popular and possible” scenario that has been discussed.

On May 12, NBA commissioner Adam Silver told the Board of Governors that he is hoping to decide the fate of the season within the next two-to-four weeks and that he wants to wait as long as he possibly can before he finalizes anything.

The season was suspended in mid-March after Utah Jazz big man Rudy Gobert tested positive for COVID-19. Several other players tested positive for the coronavirus afterward, with Brooklyn Nets superstar Kevin Durant and Gobert's Jazz teammate Donovan Mitchell among them.

Up until recently, there had been little to no movement on talks for restarting the season, with some even surmising that we wouldn't see basketball again until the 2020-21 campaign.

But based on the evidence at hand, it seems as if the league may be making some ground toward a return.

Of course, discussions are still in the early stages, and nothing is imminent, but the fact that conversations have even gotten this far and this detailed is probably a good sign.

There was just over a month left in the regular season at the time of the suspension.
