There is no denying that the NBA is the most prominent basketball league in the world, but as the old adage says, even the best has its own flaws.

Over the past couple of years, the league has received criticisms, especially when it comes to officiating, and apparently, NBA players sees it as the biggest issue in the league at the moment.

In a recent poll by Sam Amick of the Athletic, players were asked to vote regarding their concerns about the league, and game officiating emerged on top.

What do you see as the biggest issue facing the league? – (58 votes)

Officiating (“too soft,” inconsistencies, player-ref relationships, superstar calls) (29.3%)
Super teams, Fan behavior (13.7%)
Social media (5.2%)
Too much youth (3.4%)
20 other votes (1.7%; one vote)

This season alone, the NBA officials have been on the hot seat for a lot of questionable calls, and although the league has addressed it by releasing those Last 2 Minutes reports, that doesn’t seem to solve anything. In fact, the relationship between players and referees continue to take hits as time passes.

The poll has also revealed that NBA players are already concerned about the constant formation of superteams in the league, as it hinders fair competition. Although there’s nothing illegal about it, superstars joining forces creates unfair competition — at least in the eyes of their fellow players.

The NBA and its officials are constantly working to make the league better, and while it is unclear if they will use this poll as a basis for the changes that they will make, it is something that they should at least consider. After all, those who took time to vote are players themselves.
