San Antonio Spurs legend Tony Parker says he “was so happy” for Kawhi Leonard and Danny Green after the Toronto Raptors beat the Golden State Warriors in six games to win the 2019 NBA title.

Parker was teammates with Leonard and Green on the Spurs. The trio won the 2014 championship over LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh and the Miami Heat. Leonard, just like in this year's Finals, was named MVP in that series versus Miami.

“I was so happy for him (Kawhi) and Danny (Green). It was awesome to watch that,” Parker told Jabari Young of The Athletic. “Both of them played unbelievable during the finals, and it was well deserved. I was very happy for him.”

During the 2017-18 season when Leonard only played nine games with the Spurs due to a lingering quadriceps injury, Parker and Manu Ginobili reportedly led a players-only meeting in which they asked Leonard if he was going to play again. Leonard was reportedly caught off guard by the meeting.

Parker also made controversial comments, telling the media his quad injury was 100 times worse than Leonard's. ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported shortly after that Parker's comments were the last straw for Leonard, who requested a trade from the Spurs last summer.

When Parker signed with the Charlotte Hornets, he said he had no issues with Leonard, who showed the entire basketball world this season that he is arguably the best player in the NBA.

Kawhi becomes an unrestricted free agent this offseason once he declines his 2019-20 player option with the Raptors.
