The Dallas Mavericks and Atlanta Hawks will battle in their inter-conference season opener matchup on Thursday night. It's time to continue our NBA odds series and make a Mavericks-Hawks prediction and pick.

The Mavericks and Hawks will each look to start off their new season with a win. Trae Young and Luka Doncic, who were traded for each other during the 2018 NBA Draft, will each look to kick off a new season with a good performance. The Hawks are coming off of a season in which they earned just their second Eastern Conference Finals berth in franchise history, while the Mavericks have lost in the first round of the playoffs to the Los Angeles Clippers each of the past two seasons.

Here's how the bookmakers have set the Mavericks-Hawks odds for this Thursday matchup.

NBA Odds: Mavericks-Hawks Odds

Dallas Mavericks +2  (-106), +114 ML

Atlanta Hawks -2 (-114), -134 ML

Over 225 points (-108)

Under 225 points (-112)

Why The Mavericks Can Cover The Spread

Luka Doncic is playing, so Dallas has a great shot to win. They do have a new coach however in Jason Kidd, so there may be some sort of learning curve for the changes Kidd might be trying to make. Still, the Mavericks come into the season fully healthy, and Doncic knows just how dial up that offense when he has all of his pieces. Kristaps Porzingis and Tim Hardaway Jr. will look to provide enough punch alongside Doncic to lead the Mavericks to a win in their season opener.

Why The Hawks Can Cover The Spread

The Hawks aren't quite as healthy as the Mavericks, but they are healthier than they were at pretty much any point last season. Trae Young should have most of his weapons tonight, though Danilo Gallinari and Lou Williams are questionable. All of the starters are slated to be active for the first time since their first round series vs. the New York Knicks a few months ago. Young will have nearly all of his weapons Thursday vs. Dallas, which is a scary thought considering what he did with just some of them throughout the Hawks postseason run this summer. Atlanta should be in a good spot to pick up a win on their home floor on Thursday.

Final Mavericks-Hawks Prediction & Pick

On paper, this game is close to a toss-up, but the Hawks have a bit more depth it seems. Atlanta is also the home team. Ride with the deeper team on their home floor, but this matchup is pretty tight and could go either way. The over may be a more conservative play, but ride with the Hawks as Dallas continues to figure out its chemistry with a new coach.

FINAL MAVERICKS-HAWKS PREDICTION & PICK: Hawks -2 (-110)
