The Detroit Pistons and Philadelphia 76ers will play in an Eastern Conference matchup on Thursday night. It's time to continue our NBA odds series and make a Pistons-76ers prediction and pick.

The Pistons and 76ers will play on Thursday night, and each side is already battling injury issues early in the new season. Detroit's 2021 No. 1 overall pick, Cade Cunningham, has yet to play for the Pistons this season due to an ankle injury, while Joel Embiid's knees are already acting up on him for the 76ers. In addition, the Pistons best player, Jerami Grant, missed Monday's game vs. the Atlanta Hawks and is questionable Thursday night. Even if Embiid is out and Grant plays, the 76ers are still strong favorites over the Pistons. Ben Simmons also remains out for the 76ers.

Here's how the bookmakers have set the Pistons-76ers odds for this Thursday matchup.

NBA Odds: Pistons-76ers Odds

Detroit Pistons +10.5 (-110), +430 ML

Philadelphia 76ers -10.5 (-110), -590 ML

Over 213 points (-110)

Why The Pistons Can Cover The Spread

Detroit doesn't have a great group right now, to be honest. If Grant is out, things get even worse as he's easily their best player as long as rookie Cade Cunningham is sidelined, and he'll probably be better than Cunningham this season even when the rookie returns. Grant runs a lot of offense for the Pistons and is also one of their best defender, his absence should not be understated. If he's able to go AND Joel Embiid is out, the 76ers would still have a lot more talent on the floor and they play better together, as they returned a lot of players from what was a really good team last season despite all of the dramatics of late. The Pistons are just not a good play here, to be frank. They are not good right now.

Why The 76ers Can Cover The Spread

The 76ers will obviously be better if Joel Embiid plays, but they have experience making things work without him. Seth Curry and Tobias Harris can get 30 points on a given night with enough looks, and the 76ers still just flow together on both ends of the court with their chemistry from last season. They'll be thin inside without Embiid if he's out, but the line will also come down some if that is the case. Either way, the 76ers should cover and win tonight, as they are the better, more cohesive unit. Detroit hung around at different points in their games so far, but they are the only team in the NBA that is yet to win a game this season. Don't expect that to change Thursday in Philly.

Final Pistons-76ers Prediction & Pick

Take the 76ers to cover the spread, with or without Embiid, but you might want to wait until he's ruled in or out to place your bets, as the line will be more favorable towards the 76ers if he's ruled out.
