Former NBA wing man Landy Fields has taken a huge step in his career – but not as a player. It has recently been announced that the 32-year-old has been hired by the Atlanta Hawks as the team's new assistant general manager.
This report comes straight via NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN:
Atlanta is hiring San Antonio’s Landry Fields as an assistant GM, sources tell ESPN. Fields was GM of the Spurs’ G-League affiliate in Austin. Fields, 32, played five years in the NBA.

Fields started his NBA career in 2010, being selected in the second round by the New York Knicks. The 6-foot-7 swingman caught the eye of New York scouts following an outstanding senior year at Stanford, where he averaged 22 points in his final year in college.
Fields earned All-Rookie team honors in his debut campaign with the Knicks, but his stint in the Big Apple would ultimately end after just two seasons. Fields entered free agency in 2012, and the Toronto Raptors quickly signed him to a new deal.
He spent three years in Toronto, but was unable to sign for a new team after just his fifth season in the NBA. Fields holds career averages of 6.8 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 1.6 assists.
As Woj indicated in his report above, Fields has been serving as the GM of of the Austin Spurs in the G League, where he was hired back in September last year. He's clearly done some impressive work in his brief stint as a team executive, which was enough for the Hawks to take notice.
Fields did not exactly have a lengthy career as a player, but it appears that he's going to find success pulling the strings as a front office executive.
