Atlanta Hawks point guard Trae Young was wary of his team's struggles as they absorbed their third straight loss against the Indiana Pacers on Saturday night.
Despite their dismal showing on the floor, the 22-year-old playmaker claimed that their disappointing showing as of late will only serve as valuable learning experiences for his young squad in the long run.
“We have to continue to learn on the fly,” Young said via The Athletic. “We’re getting guys in and out. We’re mixing guys in. (Saturday), we just kind of went out there and just tried to play with effort. We just got to figure out how to close better and kind of learn on the fly.”
“I just think a lot of teams are throwing things at us that we’re not prepared for right now,” he added.
The Hawks looked like they were going to compete for a win as they managed to keep up with the Pacers for the first three quarters of the game. However, a huge performance from opposing guard Doug McDermott sparked a run by the Pacers which allowed them to gain separation in the final quarter en route to bagging a 125-113 victory.

On the other side, starting center Clint Capela notched 24 points and 10 rebounds for the Hawks. Danilo Gallinari also tried to step up for his team and contributed 20 points while Young was only held to tally 15 points and 14 assists in the loss.
With their latest defeat, the Hawks continue to skid as they dropped to an 11-15 record for the 10th spot in the Eastern Conference. It will certainly be a long road ahead for head coach Lloyd Pierce and his men as they look to have a turnaround to their campaign as the season progresses.
Atlanta will aim to get back in the win column when they visit the upstart New York Knicks on Feb. 15.
