Entering his 21st season in the NBA, Atlanta Hawks guard Vince Carter has established himself as one of the most prominent veteran figures in the league today.
Given his vast experience and acquired knowledge in the sport, most believe that coaching would be the next logical step for the 41-year-old once he finally calls it a career. However, Carter himself has eliminated the possibility of such, claiming that he has his eyes set on a different goal.
Carter's mentality as a player appears to be the main stumbling block for a potential coaching career. This is detailed in a write-up by the Associated Press for Yahoo! Sports.
“Carter describes himself as a longtime veteran who has a coach’s mentality but doesn’t want to coach. ‘I love to play, man,' he said. ‘I have a young guy’s mentality with a 40-year-old body.'”
Coaching may not be the path Carter decides to take, but he still has every intention to stay in the realm of basketball. The eight-time All-Star appears to have placed himself in a good position to take on a career as a broadcaster once it is all said and done.

Perhaps his decision to sign for the Hawks this season was somewhat motivated by this objective.
“Atlanta, home to Turner Broadcasting and NBA TV, is the right place to be, but Carter isn’t quite ready to announce his retirement.”
Then again, as the article so clearly states, Carter's head is still very much on playing the sport. To the former Rookie of the Year winner, the Hawks presented an opportunity for more minutes — something he seems to hold more highly than chasing a ring.
