The Boston Celtics clinched an NBA Finals appearance with their Game 7 victory over the Miami Heat on Sunday. It was an emotional moment for all of the Boston players, but perhaps Al Horford was the most touched by the win. The veteran big man held the record for most postseason games played without a Finals appearances prior to this season. But the Celtics' Eastern Conference championship also provided a nice perk for Horford.

Part of Al Horford's contract includes a winning-based incentive. Because the Celtics clinched a Finals berth, his salary jumped from $14.5 million to $19.5 million for next season.

But it gets even better.

The contract also stipulates that he would receive another salary jump if the team wins the Finals. So Horford would receive a full $26.5 million dollars for a Celtics NBA Finals victory.

But according to MassLive, the Celtics are expected to fulfill Al Horford's entire $26.5 million dollar contract regardless of the Finals outcome. It is a reward for his extremely strong play throughout the season and postseason.

Horford averaged 10.2 points, 7.7 rebounds, and over a block per game during the regular season. His defense and rebounding prowess have been vital to the Celtics' success in the postseason, especially against the Heat and Milwaukee Bucks. Boston likely would not be heading to the Finals without his contributions.

Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, and Marcus Smart receive the attention and accolades. But Al Horford's impressive performance earned him an extremely generous payday.

The Celtics will look to finish off their 2021-2022 campaign in grand style by upsetting the Golden State Warriors in the NBA Finals.
