Jaylen Brown is one of the exciting young players on the Boston Celtics that Danny Ainge and Brad Stevens feel they can build around. It sounds like Brown is embracing his role with the team and looking to take another leap forward after seeing a huge improvement in his second season.
According to A. Sherrod Blakely of NBC Sports Boston, Brown said he focused on being “uncomfortable” during his offseason work. By uncomfortable, Brown was not talking about what he was wearing or how he relaxed after the gym. Brown was specifically referencing his desire to work on his weaknesses during the offseason.
Brown also said this, via Jay King of The Athletic:
“So many things that people critiqued me on in the past, it will be interesting to see if they critique me this year.”
The 21-year-old sounds like he has his head in the right place as he enters a pivotal season. The Celtics are incredibly deep as they prepare to avenge their Game 7 loss in the Eastern Conference Finals last season. Mind you, they were without Kyrie Irving and Gordon Hayward for much of the season and the entire playoff run.
Brown's ability to do the little things and improve his weaknesses will go a long way towards solidifying his place in Boston's late-game rotations. As he works to improve his all-around game, he could be a vital role player alongside All-Star-caliber players like Irving, Hayward, and Al Horford.
If you're a Celtics fan, this attitude from Brown has to excite you.
