The Boston Celtics Game 1 victory over the Brooklyn Nets put them ahead 1-0 in the Round 1 series. However, the win didn't come easily for Boston, especially for guard Jaylen Brown.
If you watched the showstopping finish, complete with Jayson Tatum's buzz-beater layup, you likely saw Brown's brutal nose bleed. Brown and Kyrie Irving were competing for an airborne ball at the end of the fourth quarter. Irving made contact with Brown's face, causing the injury.
Celtics medical staff tended to Brown courtside and he quickly returned to the action with tissues shoved up both of his nostrils. However, as he continued to play, the bleeding showed no signs of slowing down.
He described his mindset for finishing out the rest of the game, regardless of the pesty injury.
NBA reporter Jared Weiss tweeted the quote Tuesday afternoon.
Jaylen Brown said his nose was bleeding every 45 min after he got hit in the face, but he pushed through it to finish the game strong: "It's survival of the fittest, so you gotta get back up. If the ref don't see it, he don't see it. I'm not just gonna lay there."

Brown also noted that he continued to deal with his nose bleed roughly every 45 minutes after the injury.
His “survival of the fittest” mentality certainly came into play Sunday. Despite it being hard to breathe with his nose plugged, all Brown was focused on was winning. He said he would “do it all again” to come out on top.
The Celtics Fanpage tweeted the quote Tuesday afternoon.
Jaylen Brown said he couldn't breathe at some points in Game 1 because of his plugged nose. "If I had to do it all again for that same ending, I'd do it all again."

The Celtics will look to further their 1-0 series lead Wednesday night. With only a one-point win over the Nets on Sunday, this series is far from over.
