Boston Celtics guard Kemba Walker will not play on Monday night against the Washington Wizards, the team announced on Sunday afternoon.

Walker has been ruled out due to illness, his third consecutive absence with that designation.

The Celtics have been fortunate to play Eastern Conference bottom-feeders of late. They eked out narrow victories against the Atlanta Hawks and Chicago Bulls on Friday and Saturday, respectively.

Luckily, the upcoming schedule allows Walker even more time. The Celtics travel to Washington, D.C. to play the Washinggton Wizards on Monday before hosting the struggling San Antonio Spurs in Boston on Wednesday.

Walker is having an excellent season in his first year with the Celtics. The three-time All-Star is averaging 22.5 points, 5.2 rebounds and 3.9 assists while shooting close to 40 percent from beyond the arc. Moreover, he has looked comfortable deferring to Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum when necessary.

The former Charlotte Hornets star is fantastic working off of screens (something Kyrie Irving seemed to struggle with last season), and he is just as dangerous working off the ball as he can be in isolation.

Walker's ability to play off the ball and allow his younger teammates to get their volume has had a big impact, particularly on Brown who is averaging a career-high 20.6 points per game while shooting better than 40 percent from deep.

Boston have been able to mask Walker's defensive deficiencies as well. The Celtics rank first in opponents scoring average and third in defensive rating, according to Basketball Reference.

Brad Stevens and Co. will give Kemba Walker another day of rest as they look to bring their winning streak to four against the Wizards on Monday.
