Boston Celtics point guard Kyrie Irving will be held out of Monday night's matchup against the Brooklyn Nets due to a hip strain, according to an official report fro the team.

Irving missed Wednesday game against the Cleveland Cavaliers due to flu-like symptoms. He returned to action on Saturday, however, scoring 32 points, six rebounds, ten assists, two steals and four 3-pointers in a 115-111 loss to the Golden State Warriors. The former Duke Blue Devil has scored 30 or more points in three of his last four outings. Over that span, he’s shot 55.8% from the field, 51.7% from three and 81.0% from the foul line.
In his 43 appearances with the Celtics this season (all starts), Kyrie Irving has racked up averages of 23.7 points on 49.9 percent shooting from the field (41.2 percent from beyond the arc), 6.9 assists, 4.8 rebounds and 1.7 steals in 32.6 minutes per contest.
Article Continues BelowWith Irving ruled out for Monday's game, Terry Rozier and Marcus Smart will likely see upticks in their usage rates. Rozier was given a starting nod in Wednesday's game against the Cavs, and he certainly made the most of his opportunity, scoring 26 points, eight rebounds and six assists.
Exactly how long Irving will be sidelined remains to be seen. It's unclear when his injury popped up. The Celtics could simply be resting their star point guard. Hopefully, he'll be back on the floor sooner rather than later.
Monday's Celtics-Nets game is scheduled to tip inside TD Garden at 7:30 p.m. ET.
