The Boston Celtics were one of the most disappointing teams last season. They were seen as one of the favorites to win the East in 2019-20, but for some reason, they were severely inconsistent. In some games, they played like legitimate championship contenders, and then they would struggle to beat some of the worst teams in the league.
Celtics guard Marcus Smart, however, was puzzled by what happened. According to Smart, the team was actually bonding a lot off the court last season; nonetheless, they weren't able to bring that brotherhood on the court.
Smart says guys actually liked each other last season. They hung out off the court. When they got on the court, guys "didn't know what exactly to do."

Smart's comment seems a bit accurate, as the Celtics weren't able to figure out how to play together. Despite all the talent they have, they underachieved. After making it into the playoffs as the fourth seed, they bowed down to the inexperienced Milwaukee Bucks in the second round.
Kyrie Irving has been largely blamed for Boston's shortcomings last year, but Smart defended his former teammate and said that the whole team is responsible for their failure to even make it to the conference finals.
The Celtics now enter a new chapter, with Irving and Al Horford leaving and Kemba Walker and Enes Kanter entering. Boston has a new-look team, and they're ready to hit the reset button with the hopes of making a deep postseason run this time around.
