The Boston Celtics have spent much of the offseason reshaping their roster to better compete for an NBA title this upcoming season.

In light of that, Adam Himmelsbach of the Boston Globe is reporting that the Celtics have reached out to veteran big man Andrew Bogut about working out a possible deal.

It’s hard to believe that Bogut is just over a year removed from being the starting center on the Warriors’ 73-win team. Last season he struggled in Dallas before being traded to the 76ers in February. After being bought out by the 76ers, Bogut signed with the Cavaliers rather than the Celtics. Still, his discussions with president of basketball operations Danny Ainge and coach Brad Stevens resonated, and a source close to Bogut said he is very interested in joining Boston this summer and is expected to be fully healthy at the start of training camp. Bogut is a strong defender and, if healthy, he would immediately become the Celtics’ best rebounder. But Boston would want to be sure that the 32-year-old has sufficiently recovered from the broken leg that sidelined him for several months.

Bogut had spent last season with the Dallas Mavericks to start the season after being traded from the Golden State Warriors. However, he was traded in February to the Philadelphia 76ers where he was bought out of his deal, then signed with the Cleveland Cavaliers, breaking his leg less than a minute into his first game with the team.

The 32-year-old was waived in mid-March after suffering a season-ending leg injury. Bogut has since been on the open market as an unrestricted free agent. His addition to the Celtics would provide much-needed depth and a true rim protector that could prove to be quite effective in a limited capacity either in the starting lineup or off the bench.

With Bogut set to be fully recovered from his injury by the start of training camp, he could be added to the mix for the Celtics over the next few weeks.
