New Orleans Pelicans forward Anthony Davis has been rumored to be a Boston Celtics target for the past season in a quest for the next superteam in the East. Yet legendary TV voice Mike Gorman thinks the only way the Celtics could trade for the all-around big man would be to swap stars.

“Again, if you’re talking about the big guy from New Orleans [Anthony Davis] then you’re going to have to be talking about a really really, good player going back the other way,” Gorman told host Evan Valenti on the Celtics Beat Podcast on CLNS Media Network. “And that’s the only other player that the Celtics really would put everyone on the table for.”

The Celtics have made big money moves in the past offseason and that is bound to put them in trouble this summer, retaining the likes of Marcus Smart, who believes he's worth twice his contract, unlikely to pay him more than the $12-14 million range he feels he deserves.

Yet trading for Davis would represent another web of master engineering from president Danny Ainge, who will need to pull some strings to bring another All-Star to Beantown.

According to Gorman, the possibility of a Big Three is out of the question, with Gordon Hayward likely not even cutting the bill for a potential trade.

Irving was Ainge's most precious asset, which is why the team chose to have him opt for surgery and miss the rest of the postseason.

Boston's best bet would be to clear some cap space, add more talent through the draft and wait until Davis becomes a free agent in 2019 to make him a succulent offer for his services.
