The Boston Celtics may seem to go almost all-in for Kyrie Irving, but the flashy Cleveland Cavaliers (he’s technically a Cavalier at this point) guard isn’t the last of Danny Ainge’s options when it comes to the superstar market.
Boston has long been pummeled by the Cavs inside, resulting to playoff exits, but the team is eyeing the biggest help they could possibly get, albeit an insane longshot, in the 6-foot-10 frame of the New Orleans Pelicans’ Anthony Davis.
In his recent piece for ESPN, Zach Lowe reports about the Celtics’ fixation on arguably the best power forward in the league, or at least in NBA 2K18’s standards.

Irving would be an indirect part of that package. The NBA's superstar class respects his ballsy showman's game. (Ainge has long liked Irving more than most of his peers for some of the same reasons, sources say.) Beyond Davis, it's hard to pinpoint the next star players who might become available at Irving's age and merit a motherlode offer — another reason to target Irving now.
While there’s no indication from the Big Easy that they’ll even consider playing around with the thought of trading away Anthony Davis even if their executives weren’t sober, it seems that the Celtics will continue to keep their tabs on the former Kentucky stalwart.
Danny Ainge has gifted Boston with a treasure trove of assets, and he will continue to play his cards close to his chest each time he hits the negotiating table. If the Celtics somehow manage to snag a superstar that is yet to reach his prime to bolster a lineup that is both young and experienced, not to mention deep, it would simply be unfair for the rest of the league.
