For the last couple of seasons, Zion Williamson has been heralded as one of the nation's top high school basketball recruits.

However, Williamson had yet to voice a commitment to any collegiate program while he rose the ranks of national recognition behind his stellar play on the court. The 17-year-old finally made his decision on Saturday night by choosing to attend Duke next season.

He had narrowed it down to between Duke, Clemson, Kansas, Kentucky, North Carolina, and South Carolina. His decision to join the Blue Devils now gives the university the top three recruits alongside top-ranked player in the class with small forwards R.J. Barrett and Cam Reddish.

This came to much of a surprise as Duke wasn't viewed as a frontrunner to land him, but it is the close-knit culture around the program that appears to have swayed him to make the commitment to play at Cameron Indoor next season under Hall of Fame head coach Mike Krzyzewski, according to ESPN.

“Duke stood out because the brotherhood represents a family,” Williamson said. “Coach K is just the most legendary coach that ever coached college basketball. I feel like going to Duke University, I can learn a lot from him.”

Williamson is among the most recognized high school basketball players in recent memory with his numerous amount of vicious dunks and blocks that have made their way across social media over the last couple of years. He is a bit undersized at the power forward position standing at 6-foot-7, but his athleticism more than makes up for that along with his ability to handle the ball off the dribble.

There are some questions about his outside shooting consistency, but he has shown that he can finish at the rim while being a major factor on the glass. The early expectation at this point is that he will take the one-and-done route with Duke to enter the 2019 NBA Draft as likely one of the top prospects on the board.
