James Harden is still with the Brooklyn Nets and Ben Simmons is still under the control of the Philadelphia 76ers. Despite all the NBA trade rumors surrounding those two players, they have yet to switch places, and it doesn't seem that neither team will be pulling the trigger on such a deal before the trade deadline, with the Sixers reportedly more interested in chasing after Harden in the offseason instead.

However, the trade talks between the Nets and the Sixers involving the said players are not yet dead. According to Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer, the two sides have argued over what each of them thinks is the best trade package for the deal to fall through (h/t Real GM).

The Philadelphia 76ers and Brooklyn Nets engaged in trade talks centered on Ben Simmons for James Harden and “bickered over pieces to add to a potential deal,” multiple sources tell Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer.

The Nets are in the middle of a brutal losing skid which could be heightening the pressure among the team's decision-makers on what exactly they should do with Harden. The former NBA MVP has a player option worth $47.366 million he could pick up for the 2022-23 NBA season, while the embattled Sixers guard-forward is due to earn $35.44 million next season and at least $37.8 million in each of the next two years after that.
