When it comes to the 2017-18 NBA season, the Brooklyn Nets (14-25) have had to deal with their fair share of injuries, especially at the guard position. Luckily, according to a report today from Adrian Wojnarowski, the Nets should be getting back their leading scorer in rising star guard D'Angelo Russell very soon.

Russell, who is averaging 20.9 points and 5.7 assists per game this season in just 12 contests, will report to practice for Brooklyn's G League affiliate this week in the Long Island Nets.

The Nets haven't given many updates regarding Russell's progress as he works his way back from arthroscopic surgery on his right knee, which has sidelined him for almost two months. Regardless, Russell has traveled with the team quite a lot while he recovers from his surgery.

Per an article published today by Brian Lewis of the New York Post:

“It’s very important to have everybody out here,” Russell said of joining the Nets on road trips. “I feel like it throws the team bonding off, the chemistry off when everybody’s not on the road and the faces that you’re used to aren’t there. So I definitely wanted to make that effort to be on this one.”

However, his return to practice this week is quite a significant step in the right direction and should be able to return this week as scheduled.

“The plan definitely is to see D’Angelo again. I wouldn’t tell you when exactly, but hopefully it’s sooner rather than later. He’s progressing well,” Nets general manager Sean Marks said on WFAN back on Dec. 21. “He’s five weeks post-op now. I think the timeline was between seven, eight weeks depending on how things go.”

This would mark Russell's return at around Jan. 12, a date in which the Nets travel to take on the Atlanta Hawks and then the Washington Wizards the following day for the second game of a back-to-back.
