Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving joined the Brooklyn Nets together to establish their basketball careers even further and bring a title to the franchise with minimal success. So far, they have only brought drama and injuries. They still have the talent to achieve basketball immortality together but have not been able to do so yet.
Durant and Irving have bonded a lot in their time together, especially after the Nets' James Harden trade. Both of them are extremely talented hoopers that are unafraid to be themselves. Durant told Logan Murdock of The Ringer that Irving being so authentic is what people don't like about him.
“What you see is what you get with Kyrie,” Durant says. “I think he’s putting everything out on the table of who he is. There’s no hiding who he is. That’s the beauty of him, is that he’s fully transparent on how he feels to the world. It’s nothing to hide. You pretty much know who he is. I think that’s really the problem. A lot of people can’t accept who he is as a person.”
Irving indeed has no problem being himself no matter what people say, for better or worse. Durant is cut from a similar cloth, as he is quick to push back against detractors of any form.
Although this is just the second season they are playing together in Brooklyn, their inability to compete for a title dominates the narrative around them. The Nets are currently just eighth in the Eastern Conference. If they had injury luck on their side, they could reach the NBA mountain top together.
