This is certainly concerning as Kevin Durant has only played a total of 19 games this season. In those games though, he looked amazing as he averaged 29.0 points, 7.3 rebounds and 5.3 assists while shooting 52.4 percent from the field and 43.4 percent from long-range.
How Brooklyn is in second place in the Eastern Conference with a 27-13 record is a testament to the talent on the roster. Teammates James Harden and Kyrie Irving have been keeping the Nets afloat with their stellar play, although Irving has missed some games due to health issues.
Article Continues BelowThe team recently made news when they acquired veteran Blake Griffin, who last played for the Detroit Pistons. The front office is likely not yet finished with rounding out the roster, so expect Brooklyn to be buyers before the trade deadline.
Regardless of how the roster looks when Durant returns, there should not be much of an adjustment period. The nice thing about his style of play is that he can seamlessly fit in with the team even if he returns much later in the season. He can take over games and effortlessly score bucket after bucket, but at the same, he can be a catch-and-shoot player and not demand the ball that much.
On defense, he can be utilized as a small-ball five, something he had much experience in during his stint with the Golden State Warriors.
As good as the Nets have been so far, they will need Durant in the postseason when matchups get tougher and bench rotations shorter.
