The Brooklyn Nets could receive a huge boost on Friday as D'Angelo Russell may return to action when they go up against the Miami Heat. He is not scheduled to play on Wednesday versus the San Antonio Spurs, leaving a big chance to play two nights after, according to Anthony Puccio of SB Nation.

The 21-year-old Ohio State product was assigned to the Nets' G-League Affiliate, the Long Island Nets, to get additional workouts which is part of the process before getting cleared to play again. He is expected to be a full participant in their practice leading to Friday's game, where he will be assessed by head coach Kenny Atkinson, his staff and team trainers.

Russell has missed his team's last 26 games due to a knee injury. He last suited up back in November 11 and has since been on the road to recovery and started rehabilitation. He was playing well prior to the injury and averaged career-high numbers of 20.9 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 5.7 assists, to go along with 1.0 steals in 27.8 minutes per game.

The 6-foot-5 point guard is also expected to be slowly eased back to the rotation in order for him to regain his old form and avoid having any setbacks. Should he return to the level he was at two months ago, he will increase the chances of the Nets to string some wins together and have a more respectable record. They currently own a 16-28 win-loss slate but finishing the season with a hot streak could do wonders for their confidence which they could take with them to the next campaign.
