Brooklyn Nets star point guard Kyrie Irving got a bit aggressive with rookie shooting guard Dzanan Musa on Thursday night against the Denver Nuggets.

Irving shoved Musa away while the Nets were in the midst of a half-court set:

Kyrie's frustrations are understandable. Brooklyn fell to 4-7 after losing to Denver on Thursday, and they are currently in ninth place in the Eastern Conference.

Although Irving has put up good numbers–28.5 points, 7.2 assists and 5.4 rebounds in 11 games–the Nets have been one of the worst defensive teams in the league this season. Brooklyn ranks 29th in opponents scoring average and 23rd in defensive rating, according to Basketball-Reference.

After a tumultuous 2018-19 campaign with the Boston Celtics, Irving has already been under the microscope this season. ESPN Senior Writer Jackie MacMullan wrote about the development of the Nets culture and how Irving's “mood swings” are seen as a potential concern amongst team officials.

Kyrie never fully seemed to settle into a leadership role with the Celtics, often venting his frustrations by lashing out at the media or showing his displeasure on the floor.

Kevin Durant has repeatedly come to Irving's defense, stating that Kyrie is simply a competitive individual that wants to win at all costs. The friendship between the two is–in part–what convinced Durant to spurn a number of other teams to come to Brooklyn.

But with Kemba Walker currently leading the Boston Celtics to the best record in the NBA and Irving struggling with the Nets, Kyrie's ability to lead is going to be a frequent storyline this year.
